Friday, September 25, 2026 — End-of-Week Update

Hey friend — here's what actually changed since Tuesday, plus everything expiring over the weekend and into next week. Two of this week's biggest stories are ticking clocks, so don't sit on this one.

WHAT'S HOT — ACT FAST

1. Amex → Avios (British Airways/Iberia/Aer Lingus): 30% transfer bonus ends Sunday, September 27. Two days left. 1,000 Membership Rewards points become 1,300 Avios. Avios shines for shorter-haul premium cabins and BA's own first class — this is the fastest window in this edition. 2. Last call: Chase Sapphire Preferred & Ink Business Preferred to World of Hyatt at 1:1 — ends Tuesday, September 30. Starting October 1, both cards permanently drop to a 4:3 ratio (1,000 Chase points → 750 Hyatt points instead of 1,000), a 25% haircut. If you opened Sapphire Preferred before June 15, 2026, or hold Ink Business Preferred at all, this is your last chance to move points to Hyatt at full value — the Sapphire *Reserve* and Reserve for Business are unaffected and keep 1:1. Hyatt is the best-in-class program for Park Hyatt, Andaz, and Alila stays, so if a Hyatt trip is anywhere on your radar, transfer before Tuesday. 3. Capital One miles → JAL Mileage Bank: 30% bonus ends September 30. Near 1:1 effective ratio, and JAL first class (DFW routings connect via ANA/JAL partners) is one of the best hard-product cabins flying. 4. Amex Platinum Q3 credits expire September 30 — that's $100 in Resy dining credit and $75 in Lululemon credit, both use-it-or-lose-it. Enrollment is required for the Resy credit; check you're enrolled before the weekend. 5. Also live: Chase Ultimate Rewards → Marriott Bonvoy, 70% bonus through October 15, and Amex → Hilton Honors, 30% bonus at an elevated 1:2.6 rate through October 14 — both still have runway, but don't wait too long.

Mechanical note, not a bonus: As of October 1, Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders transfer to Hyatt at 4:3 instead of 1:1 — see WHAT'S HOT above if you haven't moved points yet.

AIRLINE SWEET SPOTS

From DFW (Thom's home airport), via Aeroplan — genuinely good business-class value right now:

  • DFW → Reykjavik (KEF): 60,000 Aeroplan miles one-way, business class (Icelandair/partner fixed chart)
  • DFW → London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid, Zurich, Dublin, Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome, Naples: 75,000 Aeroplan miles one-way, business class, flying Lufthansa Group, ANA, Turkish, or EVA metal on the connecting legs. A one-way business seat on these routes commonly cash-prices at $3,000–5,000+.
  • DFW → Tokyo (NRT/HND), Osaka (KIX/ITM), Seoul (ICN), Auckland (AKL): 85,000 Aeroplan miles one-way, business class — ANA and JAL business class one-way often cash-prices north of $4,500.

Aeroplan is a transfer partner of Amex, Chase, Bilt, and Capital One, so any of those points work here. Chase currently has no live bonus to Aeroplan (the 20% bonus above requires Ultimate Rewards and ends Sep 30); the rest transfer at 1:1.

Delta SkyMiles flash sale: US to Australia/New Zealand from 25,000 SkyMiles one-way, with Melbourne round-trips as low as 50,000 SkyMiles, for travel October 2026 through March 2027. Delta co-branded cardholders save an additional 15% on Delta-operated award flights. Flash sales vanish fast — book soon if this route is on your list.

*Data source note: these mileage amounts come from Thom's own deals database (chart-verified September 8–9, 2026, so labeling as of that date — award charts of this type move infrequently, but availability should always be checked live).*

How to trigger the fiddly ones: Amex Platinum's Resy credit only posts at venues flagged "Qualifies for Resy Credit" on the Resy app/site — being bookable on Resy is not the same thing (more on this in the Dining Spotlight below). The Marriott Brilliant and Hilton Aspire credits are strict "use it by the window closes or lose it" — no rollover on either. Capital One's original standalone Dining program is winding down this year; existing reservations are honored through December 31, 2026, and cardholder dining perks are migrating to Capital One Entertainment.

Correction to note: Goldbelly and Wine.com left the Amex Gold dining credit partner list on July 1, 2026 — if you've been counting on those for the monthly credit, that no longer works.

Eligibility traps, plainly:

  • Chase 5/24 — if you've opened 5+ personal cards (any bank) in the last 24 months, Chase will likely deny you for the Sapphire cards, business cards included in some counts.
  • Amex once-per-lifetime — you generally can't earn a welcome bonus on a specific Amex card (Platinum, Gold, Business Platinum, etc.) if you've ever had that exact card before, even decades ago.
  • Capital One 48-month rule — Venture and Venture X now share a household bonus-eligibility clock; if you've earned a bonus on either in the past 48 months, you likely won't qualify again on the other.
  • Citi 48-month rule — similar restriction across ThankYou-earning Citi cards; check before applying if you've held a Citi travel card recently.

DINING CITY SPOTLIGHT: San Antonio, Boston, Atlanta, Portland & San Diego

A reminder on the rule: since August 1, 2026, being bookable on Resy is not the same as qualifying for the Amex Platinum's $100 quarterly Resy credit. Only venues carrying the "Qualifies for Resy Credit" badge trigger the statement credit — marked ✅ below, pulled directly from Thom's Resy-credit tracker (last checked September 15, 2026 — 10 days old, so treat any single restaurant's badge as of that date, not live).

San Antonio (hometown pick):

  • Cullum's Attaboy — Michelin Bib Gourmand, on Resy. ✅ *Qualifies for Resy credit.*
  • Isidore and Nicosi — both Michelin one-star, both on the Chase Sapphire Reserve dining list, both James Beard 2026 nominees (Nicosi: pastry chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph). Neither currently shows Resy/OpenTable booking in Thom's tracker — call ahead.
  • Clementine — on the CSR dining list, bookable on Resy, but flagged not eligible for the Resy credit as of Sep 9. Worth the visit; just don't expect the statement credit.

Boston:

  • Asta and Somaek Korean — both Michelin Selected, both on Resy. ✅ *Both qualify for the Resy credit.*
  • Uni, Grill 23 & Bar, Krasi — all on the CSR dining list for a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit if you're carrying that card instead.
  • Mamma Maria and Row 34 — Resy-bookable, high-rated, good backups if the above are full; Resy-credit status unconfirmed for these two.

Atlanta:

  • Hayakawa and Bacchanalia — both Michelin one-star, both on Resy. ✅ *Both qualify for the Resy credit* — a rare case of two starred rooms in the same city both triggering the Platinum credit this week.
  • Mujō — Michelin one-star, James Beard 2026 nominee (Best Chef: Southeast), on Resy — but flagged not eligible for the Resy credit as of Sep 9, despite the Resy booking. Good illustration of exactly the trap this rule change created.
  • Lazy Betty — Michelin one-star, on the CSR dining list; Resy-credit status unconfirmed.

Portland (Michelin doesn't cover Portland, so James Beard and Resy-credit status carry the section):

  • Kann — Chef Gregory Gourdet's Haitian-inspired restaurant, James Beard pedigree, on Resy. ✅ *Qualifies for the Resy credit.*
  • Tusk, Jacqueline, Casa Zoraya — all on Resy and all ✅ *qualify for the Resy credit.* Portland is this edition's strongest city for stacking the Amex credit.
  • Nodoguro — James Beard 2026 winner (Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific, Ryan Roadhouse), on the CSR dining list; Resy-credit status unconfirmed.
  • Scotch Lodge — James Beard 2026 winner, Outstanding Bar.

San Diego:

  • Cesarina, Morning Glory, Callie — all Michelin Bib Gourmand.
  • Juniper and Ivy and Animae — both on the Chase Sapphire Reserve dining list.
  • None of this city's picks matched Thom's Resy-credit tracker this edition — treat San Diego's Amex Resy-credit status as unverified, not absent. Check the badge on Resy directly before booking if the credit matters to your decision.

Marriott Bonvoy0.8¢
Hilton Honors0.5¢

No new 0.1¢+ valuation shifts to flag this week beyond the already-incorporated August revisions above. The one mechanical change worth tracking is the Chase-to-Hyatt transfer ratio drop (see WHAT'S HOT) — it doesn't change Hyatt's own point value, but it cuts the *effective* value of a Chase-point-funded Hyatt redemption by 25% for affected cardholders starting October 1.

THIS WEEK'S MOVE

If you're holding Chase Sapphire Preferred (opened before June 15, 2026) or Ink Business Preferred, and a Hyatt stay — even a someday one — is on your radar: move those Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt before Tuesday, September 30. After that, the ratio drops from 1:1 to 4:3 permanently on those two cards, a 25% cut with no do-over. Points sitting in your Chase account cost you nothing extra to move now and can always be transferred back to cash-equivalent uses later if plans change — but you can't undo missing this deadline. Runner-up move: if BA/Iberia/Aer Lingus premium cabins are in a trip you're already planning, the Amex-to-Avios 30% bonus closes even sooner, this Sunday.
