Friday, October 16, 2026 — End-of-Week Update

Hey friend — here's what moved since Tuesday, what's closing out the week, and what you want locked in before the weekend. Quick housekeeping: this edition's dining rotation moves off Texas-only cities for the first time, cycling through a 20-city pool — this week it's Houston, Miami, Las Vegas, Nashville, and New Orleans (Houston keeps your Texas hometown pick going every edition).

🔥 WHAT'S HOT — ACT FAST

  • SAS EuroBonus 20%-off award sale — business class US–Europe for 48,000 points one-way. Normally 60,000 points, now 48,000. Book by October 18 (two days left!) for travel through March 31, 2027. Book here
  • FNBO Complete Rewards® Visa Signature® Card — just launched (Oct 16). 15,000 points after $500 spend in 3 billing cycles, no annual fee, 5x on travel. New, so proceed with the usual new-card caution. Apply
  • Citi ThankYou → Avianca LifeMiles (25%) and → JAL Mileage Bank (30%) — both close October 24, just over a week out. Details below.

Expired this week, don't bother: Amex→Hilton Honors 30% (ended Oct 14), Chase UR→Marriott Bonvoy 70% (ended Oct 15), Chase UR→World of Hyatt 4:3 bump (ended Oct 1). Skip anything you see still advertising these — they're stale.

Thin week for transfer bonuses — nothing near the 100%+ bonuses we sometimes see. If you're not flying SkyTeam, oneworld-via-Avianca, or JAL this winter, there's no must-move here.

Also worth a look if you like buying points: Hilton Honors points, up to 120% bonus (through Nov 21) and Marriott points, up to 55% bonus (through Nov 9) — only pencil these out if you have a specific redemption in mind; buying speculatively rarely beats a transfer bonus.

AIRLINE SWEET SPOTS

  • SAS business class, US–Europe: 48,000 EuroBonus points one-way (20% off, book by Oct 18, fly through Mar 31, 2027) — the standout of the week. Thriftytraveler covered it too.
  • Singapore Airlines "Spontaneous Escapes" — Premium Economy, US ⇄ Asia from 55,300 KrisFlyer miles; Europe (Frankfurt) from 39,900 miles. Book by Oct 31, fly November 2026. Fares are nonrefundable/non-changeable.
  • American AAdvantage partner charts (evergreen, verified Sept 9) — Business class US↔Europe from 57,500 miles one-way on partners; US↔Japan/Korea ("Asia 1") from 60,000 miles; Qatar Qsuites US↔Doha at 70,000 miles one-way. From DFW specifically, AA's own partner chart (via Lufthansa Group/oneworld partners) prices business class to Cancún or Los Cabos at 30,000 miles — solid for a quick premium getaway, though American's own metal prices dynamically.
  • World of Hyatt Category 4 chart (evergreen, verified early Sept): Hyatt Regency Kyoto and Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile both run ~15,000 points/night (12,000–18,000 range) — a reliable value anchor while you wait for a transfer bonus.
  • American Express refundable Main Cabin to Europe for 42,000 AAdvantage miles round trip — fully refundable before departure, widely available from U.S. gateways, best in spring/summer (per Thrifty Traveler's Oct 16 newsletter).

How to trigger the fiddly ones: For the Amex Resy credit, check the venue's Resy page for the actual "Qualifies for Resy Credit" badge before booking — being bookable on Resy is not enough. For the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit, you must link your card inside OpenTable and book a table specifically flagged "Sapphire Reserve" in the Exclusive Tables collection, not just any Visa Dining Collection listing.

Eligibility traps to know about:

  • Chase 5/24: If you've opened 5+ personal cards (any bank) in the last 24 months, Chase will likely deny you — this affects Sapphire and Ink cards.
  • Amex once-per-lifetime: Many Amex welcome bonuses (including Platinum) are limited to once ever per card, not once per 24 months — check your Amex history before applying for a "bonus."
  • Citi 48-month rule: You generally can't get a new-cardmember bonus on a Citi card you've had (or gotten a bonus on) in the past 48 months.
  • Southwest Companion Pass change incoming: Starting in 2027, new-card welcome-bonus points, card multipliers, and referral bonuses will no longer count toward Companion Pass qualification — only flight spend and Tier Qualifying Points will. If you're chasing the Companion Pass via a new Southwest card, you want to be approved on or before Dec 2, 2026 to lock in the old rules.
  • Most of this week's best offers are business cards — if you don't run a business, your real options this week are the Amex Hotels.com/Walmart.com offers and the no-fee FNBO card.

DINING CITY SPOTLIGHT: Houston, Miami, Las Vegas, Nashville & New Orleans

This is the first edition under the new rotation — 20 US cities in 4 groups of 5, cycling roughly every two weeks, always with one Texas city in the mix. This week's group: Houston, Miami, Las Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans.

A reminder on the ✅: since August 1, 2026, the Amex Platinum Resy credit only fires at venues showing the actual "Qualifies for Resy Credit" badge — being bookable on Resy isn't enough. The ✅ below comes straight from Thom's tracked database of ~263 venues, last checked September 9–15, 2026 (so more than a month old — treat it as a strong signal, not gospel; badges can change).

Houston

  • March — Michelin 1-star, on the Chase Sapphire Reserve dining list. Not one of the ~263 venues Thom's database tracks for Resy credit, so credit-badge status is unconfirmed — call ahead if you're counting on the credit.
  • Nancy's Hustle — Bib Gourmand. ✅ Confirmed qualifying for the Amex Resy credit (as of Sept 9).

Miami

  • COTE Miami — Michelin 1-star Korean steakhouse. ✅ Confirmed qualifying for the Amex Resy credit.
  • Boia De — Michelin 1-star. ✅ Confirmed qualifying for the Amex Resy credit.

Las Vegas

  • é by José Andrés — Michelin 1-star, inside The Cosmopolitan. Not tracked in Thom's database — confirm credit-badge status on Resy directly before booking.
  • Lamaii — Michelin Selected. ✅ Confirmed qualifying for the Amex Resy credit.

New Orleans

  • Dakar NOLA — Michelin Selected, and chef Serigne Mbaye just won James Beard Best Chef: South 2026. On the Chase Sapphire Reserve list. Not tracked for Resy credit in Thom's database — this is a reservation worth making regardless of the credit.
  • Herbsaint — Michelin Selected. ✅ Confirmed qualifying for the Amex Resy credit.

Nashville

  • Bastion — Michelin 1-star, on the Chase Sapphire Reserve list. Not tracked for Resy credit.
  • Sho Pizza Bar — Bib Gourmand. ✅ Confirmed qualifying for the Amex Resy credit.

*Michelin and Chase Sapphire Reserve dining-list status reflect Thom's database as of September 9, 2026 — both lists move, so a quick Resy or Michelin Guide check before you book is never a bad idea.*

VALUATION CHANGES

No changes to flag this week — published values for all nine programs matched the reference set below. (Recall: Hyatt, Southwest, and American AAdvantage were all revised down back in August 2026 after their respective devaluations — those lower values remain current, nothing new this week.)

THIS WEEK'S MOVE

Book SAS's business-class sale to Europe — 48,000 EuroBonus points one-way, 20% off the normal 60,000 — before it closes October 18. That's two days from this edition landing in your inbox. If you don't have a EuroBonus balance, this is also a legitimate reason to check whether your Amex or Chase points can transfer in fast enough (they can't transfer to SAS directly — but if Europe business class is on your radar for this winter or spring, this is the cheapest lie-flat seat across the Atlantic you'll see for a while). Runner-up if the SAS dates don't work for you: the Amex Hotels.com offer (10% back, up to $125) is open to any enrolled card through mid-January and costs nothing to use on a trip you're already booking.

*Rates, bonuses, and availability change fast and can vary by account — always confirm current terms directly with the airline, hotel program, or card issuer before booking or applying. This newsletter is independent commentary, not financial advice, and is not affiliated with any airline, hotel brand, or bank.*

Make it yours.

Answer a few questions and your edition is built around your city, your cards and the things you actually care about — published Tuesdays and Fridays.
